Mark Mero is speaking openly about the end of his marriage to Sable, revealing how their relationship fell apart after she returned to WWE — and how that decision ultimately led to their divorce. He shared the personal details during an interview with Chris Van Vliet, where he reflected on the difficult period that followed their time away from wrestling.

During the conversation, Mero explained that their relationship was already under strain after both left WWE. While he chose to stay home and focus on raising their daughter, Sable decided to go back on the road. That decision created distance between them, and he said it was during that time that everything changed.

“Well, that was after she went back after we left the company. That's when we were going through our breakup. She decided to go back to the WWF and I didn't want to go back to wrestling and so I was kind of a stay-at-home mom with our daughter Mariah and she went back on the road and that's how, you know, she met Brock and that's how that all ended in divorce.”

Mero went on to describe the emotional warning signs that something was wrong. He recalled how nightly phone calls that had once been routine slowly started disappearing, which made him realize their relationship was shifting in ways he couldn’t ignore.

“Every night she would call home to talk, you know, tuck in Mariah, say good night to both of us… but it seemed weird that the calls were becoming less and less… and Mariah wouldn't get to talk to her mom.”

The situation reached a breaking point when Mero discovered a voicemail that confirmed his fears. He described hearing another man’s voice and later confronting Sable when she returned home — a confrontation that ended with her asking for a divorce.

“I got to listen to the first message… which was a male’s voice talking about their night before… it was just really heartbreaking… then when I picked her up at the airport, I said, ‘Who is this?’… and she just said, ‘I want a divorce.’”

This story remains one of the most discussed personal situations tied to WWE’s Attitude Era, especially considering Brock Lesnar’s rise to becoming one of the biggest stars in the industry. Hearing Mero explain the timeline in his own words during the Chris Van Vliet interview gives fans a clearer understanding of how the situation unfolded behind the scenes and how deeply it affected his life.
