WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry just dropped a wild story on the Six Feet Under podcast — and it involves a $300 shirt, some spilled drinks, and a surprise trip to jail overseas.
The World’s Strongest Man revealed that during an overseas WWE tour, he ended up spending nearly two hours in jail after a heated altercation in a bar escalated over — of all things — a silk shirt.
“Y’all remember when we got stuck in the UK. We got stuck, and Sheamus’ mom and aunt came to visit us.”
At the time, Henry was just relaxing in his hotel room when Sheamus invited him downstairs to meet his family. That’s when things quickly took a turn.
“I’m in my room playing, and it’s Sheamus, who says, ‘Mate, come downstairs. My aunt wants to meet you, and I want you to meet my ma.’”
Mark Henry obliged — and that’s when a fan approached him with a Sharpie, accidentally destroying his expensive shirt. Naturally, Henry was incredibly angry after what happened and he confronted the fan.
“The shirt I had was raw silk. This guy came up with a Sharpie and thought the lid was on — which you shouldn’t poke anyone with anyway. He tapped me on the shoulder like, ‘Excuse me, Mark Henry?’ I look, and I can see the ink soaking right into my silk. It’s a dish rag now. A $300 shirt, gone. I was like, ‘Why’d you do that, man?’ I was pissed off.”
Henry says the man responded disrespectfully, and that’s when things got physical as he ended up throwing drinks in the fan’s face, something Henry still regrets.
“He goes, ‘You don’t have to be an a**hole.’ I had just bought Sheamus’ mom and aunt a drink. The guy’s talking to me as I’m reaching, so I took both drinks and threw them in his face. I told you, I have regrets.”
That’s when the law stepped in. Mark Henry was arrested and taken to jail in general lock-up overseas. He noted how they took off his belt, shoelaces and everything.
“So now I go to jail while I’m over there. Yeah, I went to jail. They put me in general lockup with all the vagrants. They took my belt, my shoelaces, and all my stuff.”
Henry painted the picture like a scene out of a prison drama — and made it clear that if anything was going to go down, he was ready for it.
“I’m just sitting there, and once again I’m like, if this is going to go down, it’s going to be on my terms. I told you, you want me to be the good guy, because in bad situations, I’m the worst.
So I told the dudes, ‘Look, this is my side, that’s y’all’s side, so nobody come over here.’ I’m sitting there with my back to the door, looking at them. It looked like a scene from a movie.”
After nearly two hours in jail, Mark Henry was released without any further issue and they gave him all of his belongings back.
“I was in jail for an hour and 45 minutes. Then they came and said, ‘Hey, you’re out of here.’ They took me out of processing and gave me my stuff back.”
Mark Henry’s story just goes to show how unpredictable life on the road could be — even for a veteran like Henry. One minute you’re meeting someone’s family, the next you’re in a holding cell across the ocean, but it’s definitely one of the wildest wrestling road tales yet.
