WWE has undergone significant changes in its programming, from the Vince McMahon era to the current Triple H era. One of the most notable changes is the live event schedule and now Mark Henry has addressed the change in live events.

WWE used to exhaust its superstars with almost daily shows, starting the week with RAW, followed by live events and then SmackDown, creating a packed schedule. However, the company has now reduced the number of live events, allowing superstars more time to recover and perform at their best.

WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry recently spoke about this shift during an appearance on the Busted Open Podcast. Reflecting on his time as an active wrestler, Henry shared that he always believed the old system was flawed, citing the relentless live event schedule as an issue. He recalled tours featuring legends like Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, The Undertaker, and Shawn Michaels, which were grueling yet explosive.

“It was a flawed system anyway from the time that I got into pro wrestling. There were tours like the ones that had Stone Cold and Undertaker, when The Rock and Austin were running against each other. There were several tours that were just explosive. Any series with The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels — if you were on those cards, man.”

Henry explained that during non-football season, a house show loop—wrestling Friday through Monday—was manageable. But he advocated for giving superstars time off during football season to rest and heal, allowing them to come back stronger.

“You could do a house show loop, like, you know, we’d go to work on Friday, do Friday night, Saturday night, Sunday, and then Monday. Sunday night, we’d drive after the show to the next town to be there for Monday Night Raw. It was cool when football season wasn’t on, and I always used to say, for those 13 weeks, we should take off. Let the well fill up, let everybody’s bodies heal up.”

WWE is clearly changing for the better and they have given more focus on ensuring that talent get enough time to rest and get ready for future events, so fans are certainly glad about this change as well.
