Jay Briscoe was tragically involved in a fatal car accident on January 17th, 2023. The Delaware State Police confirmed that another driver crossed the center line and collided with his vehicle head-on. More than two years after the tragedy, Mark Briscoe has revealed the text he received from his brother on the day of the accident.

While speaking during a Player’s Tribune special, Mark Briscoe revealed that on the day Jay Briscoe passed away, Jay had sent him a text that morning, but Mark didn’t see it until later in the day. It was a photo Jay had taken of a beautiful rainbow outside his back door, looking out from his patio.

Jay had even posted it online with a caption saying something like God was showing off that morning. Mark admitted he wasn’t sure if he simply hadn’t checked his phone or missed it somehow.

“That morning he had sent me a text, which I didn’t see until later in the day. He just, you know, I don’t know if I didn’t look at my phone, whatever, but it was a picture of a rainbow out his back door, off his back patio or whatever. Just a beautiful picture of a rainbow. I think he had posted it on whatever, online, and said, ‘God’s showing off this morning.'”

Mark Briscoe said he was in complete denial that Jay Briscoe might die. It never even crossed his mind; he just thought it wasn’t good, but maybe his brother had broken his legs or was paralyzed. It simply wasn’t a situation where he believed Jay could actually be dying.

The first thing he asked was whether the girls were okay, and that’s when he was told they were hurt but probably going to live. That’s when the reality started to hit, and he was told that they didn’t think Jay was going to make it. He was shocked and couldn’t process it.

“I was in total denial that he might die. That wasn’t even in my brain. It was like, OK, it’s not good. So what, he broke his legs? He’s paralyzed? I was just not—it wasn’t a Jamin-might-be-dying type thing. I said, ‘Are the girls OK?’ And then that’s when she was like, ‘They’re hurt, but I think they’re going to live.’ And then I was like, ‘What, no.’ And then she said, ‘I don’t think Jamin’s gonna make it.’ I was just like, you know.”

The memory of Jay’s last message which is a simple reminder of how beautiful life is, now serves as a powerful symbol of his what kind of person he was. No matter what, Jay Briscoe will always live on in his brother’s heart and that’s never going to change.
