Mariah May is on her way out of AEW and gearing up for a WWE debut, but her road to this moment started years ago—with a tryout she didn’t even believe was real.
In a resurfaced interview with Ten Count Media recorded before her STARDOM run, May opened up about her first brush with WWE. Back in 2019, she was still brand new to wrestling, having only wrestled a couple of matches when WWE contacted her for a UK tryout. She was so stunned that she initially thought it was a scam.
“But yeah, it was kind of surreal when they asked me. I thought it was fake. Like I immediately checked the handle, ’cause I was like, ‘I’ve had like one match!’ But, you know, obviously I’ve wanted to go to WWE, and I was like, ‘Umm…’”
By the time the tryout came around, May had four matches under her belt—but she’d already been training intensely, which helped her handle WWE’s grueling testing process.
“They reached out to me. I’d only had—well, when they reached out to me, I’d had two matches, or one match. And then by the time I had my tryout, I think I’d had like four matches.”
WWE tryouts are more than just putting on a match. May recalled being pushed through drills, promos, and fitness tests, but her training gave her confidence to survive the day.
“It was an amazing experience, like, because a tryout in itself with WWE is—you don’t, you know, there might be like a wrestling match, but there’s a lot of drills and fitness and promos. So all of that, I’d been training really hard, because I trained quite a bit before I actually had my first match. So in that side of things, like—cool, great.”
Fast forward to 2025, and Mariah May is reportedly set to finally live out her WWE dream. While AEW has removed her profile from its official website, she hasn’t made her last move just yet—but her departure is all but confirmed.
From thinking her WWE shot was too good to be true, to actually signing on the dotted line years later, Mariah May’s story has come full circle.
