Friday Night SmackDown has been a three-hour show since the beginning of this year, and quite a few fans have noticed a sharp decline in quality, which is not something they expected at all. In fact, it appears that quite a few people in WWE feel SmackDown’s quality has not been up to par at all.
While speaking on The Hump, Sean Ross Sapp was asked whether there had been any discussions in WWE about the decline in SmackDown’s quality. He confirmed that many people had brought it up as they feel the show hasn’t been up to par lately.
Sean Ross Sapp acknowledged these concerns and agreed with them, noting that many in WWE are questioning why more talent isn’t being utilized, especially given the show’s three-hour runtime.
“Yes, there has been. A lot of people have brought it up. They don’t feel like it’s been up to par as of late, and I certainly understand it and agree with it. There are a lot of people wondering why more talent isn’t being used—it’s three hours.”
This comes after Road Dogg was named co-head writer of Friday Night SmackDown, returning to the show’s creative team for the first time since his previous run from 2016 to 2019. However, many fans are simply unhappy with how the shows have been written over the past several weeks and called for Dogg to be removed from his position.
With growing frustration among fans and WWE insiders, it’s unclear if the company will make changes to improve SmackDown. As WWE heads toward major events like WrestleMania 41, only time will tell if the show gets better.
