Malakai Black has been an important part of AEW for over three years, mostly as a member of The House of Black. However, reports suggest that Black is expected to leave the company soon. Recently, he competed at an independent wrestling event and now he has hinted that he might appear there again, further fueling speculation about his future in wrestling.

Malakai Black competed against his student Orion, at Coastal Championship Wrestling on January 11, 2025, at Magnanimous Brewing in Tampa, Florida. Black would win the match and fans started wondering if that was going to be the only appearance he’d make for the company.

As it turns out, Coastal Championship Wrestling took to Twitter and uploaded an interview with Malakai Black, Black stated that Orion did something many others haven’t been able to do for a long time—almost get inside his head and make him consider defeat.

However, he made it clear that tonight wasn’t the night for that to happen. While Orion might succeed in the future, Black promised that when it happens, it will be in Coastal Championship Wrestling. He also hinted that he will be making more appearances in the promotion.

“Orion did something that a lot of people have not been able to get done in a very long time and that’s almost get inside my head and slowly get to a place where I can perhaps accept defeat but not tonight. Perhaps in the future he might succeed but it’s not tonight, but when he will, I will make sure that it’s here in Coastal Championship Wrestling. So Orion, I have a feeling we’re not done in this place.”

PWTorch reported that key decision-makers in WWE strongly support Malakai Black and see him as a potential top singles star and other reports indicate he could become a free agent by February or March 2025. Therefore, we will have to wait and see what the future holds for Malakai Black, as a WWE return seems to be the most likely destination for him next.
