AEW fans have been wondering what happened to Luther after he vanished from TV following All In: Texas—and now we finally have answers straight from the man himself.

During the February 9, 2026 episode of AEW Unrestricted, Toni Storm’s trusted butler revealed the gruesome real-life injury that took him out of action for months. Turns out, it was far more serious than fans realized.

“I feel pretty good. Whatever was reattached.” [laughter] “I feel pretty good. I can walk again, so that was a win right there. Yeah, I ripped my hip flexor off. Basically, when I went to see the doctor… I woke up and it hurt that night, but I still went out. Adrenaline was kicking in, so it hurt, but I made it through.

Luther explained he suffered a ripped hip flexor during the July 2025 match between Toni Storm and Mercedes Moné at All In: Texas. The injury happened during a spot where he was holding Toni in his arms, only for Mercedes to dive onto him mid-spot. What followed was excruciating—and terrifying.

“I was holding Toni, and Mercedes jumped on me, and I basically did a bridge holding both of them. I was taking the bump, but my foot got caught on the mat, and that’s what happened. I woke up the next morning at like 5 a.m., and my leg was paralyzed. I couldn’t move it at all.”

Doctors later told him the damage was severe. While it required surgery and extensive rehab, Luther said he was lucky to avoid the more extreme version of the injury.

“The doctor summed it up by saying it was like a bomb went off in my leg. It just tore everything in there. They said there was a good option and a bad option. I had the good one. The good option was that it tore. The bad option is when the bone comes off with it, but my bone stayed, so that was the good thing.”

Despite being told recovery could take up to a year, Luther said he was walking again just four months later—crediting modern medicine and fast healing.

“Out of a bad situation, I guess I had the best one. They said I’m a really fast healer, and I was up and going. So yeah, modern science helped fix it.”

Luther had been absent from AEW programming since the injury, though Sean Ross Sapp noted back in September 2025 that he was still under contract and working behind the scenes as a match producer and coach.

As for the infamous joke Toni Storm keeps making about Luther’s “broken penis”? That’s just Storm being Storm. Luther’s road back to the ring was long and painful, but his update confirms what AEW fans have been hoping: he’s not only back—he’s walking tall.
