Dutch Mantell is weighing in on the growing conversation surrounding Jim Ross after D-Von Dudley recently confirmed JR was the WWE official he previously accused of making racially offensive comments.

D-Von opened up about the experience on Duke Loves Rasslin, revealing that the longtime WWE commentator was the one who made hurtful remarks toward him during the Attitude Era. While D-Von made it clear he’s not out for revenge—and even said he’s forgiven JR—the story exploded online and sparked a wave of discussion. Now, Dutch Mantell is speaking up with his own perspective.

On his Story Time with Dutch Mantell podcast, the former WWE personality addressed D-Von’s comments and made it clear that he’s never personally witnessed Jim Ross say anything racist.

“I’ve been around Jim Ross a lot, and I’ve never heard him say anything racial in a derogatory manner. I’ve never heard him say that at all.”

Dutch then brought up another figure from wrestling’s past—Bill Watts—as a point of comparison. Watts, who had a reputation for controversial remarks, still pushed Black talent in his territory days, according to Mantell.

“Now, Bill Watts, that’s another story. But Jim—I’m not defending him—but I’ve never found him to be the least bit [racist]. And of course, he could be, I don’t know. But I’ve never known him to be racist or even say any words that were racist.”

While Mantell didn’t dismiss D-Von’s story outright, he was careful to frame his take as strictly based on personal experience.

“I can’t speak for anybody else… that’s not condemning him and it’s not convicting him. He could have been one of the two, but me personally is all I can speak about. I never heard it.”

D-Von’s story, which began years ago as a vague reference to racism from “top officials,” came into full view after he confirmed it was Jim Ross who made the comments. But he insisted it wasn’t about cancel culture—it was about healing and letting go.

“Like I said, I forgave him. But I don’t have to forget.”

And he warned others not to make his story theirs:

“Make your judgment of him your decision. Don’t let it be influenced by anything I’ve said. That’s my story with him… not yours.”

Now with Dutch Mantell stepping in to share his own experience, the story continues to evolve—reminding fans that pro wrestling history is often more complex than it appears on the surface.
