John Cena turned babyface just before SummerSlam, ending his months-long run as a heel. While most people are happy he’s a face again, Logan Paul isn’t one of them whatsoever.

While speaking on the Impaulsive podcast, Logan Paul criticized John Cena for flip-flopping between being a heel and babyface. He said he was disappointed, both as a fan and as someone who knows Cena.

When Cena first turned heel, Paul thought it was great because it let Cena be himself and people would still accept him. But when Cena went back to being a babyface, Paul felt like he was just trying to get approval from the crowd instead of doing what he really wanted, even comparing it to a midlife crisis.

“I’m a little disappointed in Cena personally, like as a fan and as a guy who knows him, just cuz I—I saw the heel turn and I was like, ‘All right, like welcome to the bright side. You can just be yourself and like people will accept you for that.’ But then the switch up back to trying to be a babyface makes me feel like uh he’s—he’s like seeking outside validation and he’s—he’s being guided by the audience instead of himself. And it feels like to me we’re watching like a midlife crisis happen.”

Paul said that when he teamed with John Cena, he got to see the real person behind the character, and he wishes Cena would show that side more. He thinks Cena needs to stop worrying about pleasing fans and focus on being himself.

The Maverick also said Cena should have chosen one direction and stuck to it, wondering if Cena is making his own decisions or just doing what others like Triple H tell him. He ended by saying Cena should just be the “greatest of all time” version of himself again, because he doesn’t like the path Cena is on now.

“Well, I’m being honest. Like I’m serious. I’m serious. Like I—I loved—loved John Cena, you know, like we had a tag and I—I got to work with him a little bit and see what he was really like. And then I see him just like—I mean, bro, he’s John Cena, you know, like uh I—I wish he—I wish he would just—I wish he would be more like me, okay? And just be himself. I think he—I think he needs to—I think he needs to just like find yourself and stop trying to like please the crowd for your own personal validation.

I just think you should have—I think you should have maybe just uh picked the lane and stayed in it. That’s what I think you should have done ’cause like—like—like I said, man, like who are you? Do you even know? Are you just doing it because the final boss says it or Triple H says it? Are you being puppeteered by the powers that be? Or why don’t you just be yourself and be the GOAT John Cena? But I saw that fade a little bit and I have to say I’m—I’m not—I’m not into it.”

The Maverick is set to square off against John Cena at the Clash in Paris Premium Live Event on August 31st, so we’ll have to see how WWE will book Paul and Cena’s feud till then, as it’s clear it could steal the show.
