Niño Hamburguesa’s firing from AAA is still a big topic of discussion — and a new report says the locker room reaction wasn’t exactly positive.

According to Dave Meltzer in the March 13, 2026 edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the locker room reaction inside AAA was mixed after WWE officials decided to release the veteran luchador. While the viral video showing Hamburguesa striking a fan led to the decision, several wrestlers reportedly wished the situation had played out differently.

The incident itself happened on March 3 at Arena Afición in Pachuca. Meltzer reported that the moment began when a fan sitting in the front row laughed at Hamburguesa after the wrestler slipped during the match.

“Based on what we were told about how it started on 3/3 at Arena Aficion in Pachuca, a fan who was wearing a mask in the front row at a show this past week laughed at him when he slipped.”

Video from the show quickly circulated online and showed the moment where Hamburguesa reacted after falling toward the fan in the crowd. Even though the fan didn’t appear to suffer serious injuries, the clip gained traction online and eventually caught the attention of WWE officials overseeing AAA.

“From a video that went viral, Hamburguesa, who is probably 350 pounds, sat on the fan's lap and threw some back elbows. He didn't appear to hurt the guy at all but it got a lot of media traction and WWE officials saw it and fired him.”

Once the decision was made, the situation was addressed with the roster. Meltzer reported that AAA talent were told about the incident just days later and given a very direct message moving forward: “Talent was told about this on 3/6 and to never touch a fan.”

According to the report, some wrestlers inside the company were unhappy with how things unfolded because Hamburguesa — whose real name is Flores — was well-liked among the talent. At the same time, many performers reportedly understood that the situation might have been handled differently before WWE gained influence over AAA.

“Flores was very popular with the talent who were unhappy that it happened and wished the outcome was different. But also understood that while if it was the old AAA, it would be just considered under the s*** happens category, with WWE owning, you can't be doing stuff like that.”

The fallout didn’t stop with Hamburguesa losing his AAA contract either. Meltzer also reported that AAA has taken steps that could impact his work on the independent circuit.

“Worse for him, AAA is not allowing any of its talent to work independent shows that he's on, meaning he's losing most of his indie booking as well.”

While the moment lasted only seconds inside the ring, the aftermath has created a much bigger story behind the scenes — with the AAA locker room reacting to how quickly the situation escalated once the clip spread online. With WWE now influencing AAA operations, the incident may serve as a clear message about how strictly the company plans to handle fan interactions moving forward.
