Liv Morgan is officially stepping away from WWE—at least for now—and we finally know how long she’s expected to be off television. After requesting time off on Raw to film a major movie project, it’s now confirmed that Morgan will be starring in Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo, a new thriller directed by acclaimed filmmaker Takeshi Miike.

According to Deadline, Morgan will appear alongside Lily James and Shun Oguri in the film, which is set to begin production in Japan next week. Distributed by Neon—the company behind Oscar-winner Anora—the film follows a corrupt Tokyo cop (Oguri), an FBI agent (James), and a missing politician’s daughter played by Liv Morgan. A deadly yakuza-linked killer shadows their every move.

PWInsider.com reports that Morgan is expected to be off WWE programming for at least several weeks. Bryan Alvarez spoke on Wrestling Observer Radio, saying, “Liv Morgan has gotten a role in Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo, which is going to be, allegedly, beginning production in Tokyo next month, although the impression I got was that she’s out of here, and that’s why they shot the angle on Monday. I think she’s heading over this week, and she’s gonna be one of the stars in the film.”

The angle Alvarez referred to took place on the April 29 episode of Raw, where Morgan asked SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis for time off. Aldis granted the request on-screen, while Dominik Mysterio was denied similar leave. Morgan, who currently holds the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships with Raquel Rodriguez, is now shifting her focus to the big screen.

This marks Morgan’s first major film role and could be a defining career moment if early reactions are anything to go by. While fans will miss her on Raw, she’s stepping into a high-profile opportunity with a respected director and major co-stars.

Liv Morgan is trading in the ring for the movie set—at least temporarily—and all signs point to this being a major new chapter for the WWE star.
