Lexis King’s contract with AEW expired back in 2023 and he wasted no time signing with WWE and becoming an NXT Superstar. However, it appears that he has now called AEW a “developmental” promotion.

Lexis King took to Twitter to hype up his main event appearance on WWE Evolve, calling it a major moment for the brand. He downplayed the level of competition he expected to face but made it clear that he didn’t see Evolve as a step down. Instead, he called it a fresh opportunity for him to dominate and make his mark.

“Tonight #WWEEvolve has the glorious privilege of hosting the King in its main event! While I don’t foresee the competition to be steep, I will say this… Evolve is not a downgrade, it is not a demotion, it is fresh green land to be conquered by none other than myself!!!”

In response, a fan commented that they would be watching AEW instead, referring to Evolve as a developmental brand for WWE’s own developmental system and dismissing its importance, saying, “I’ll be watching @AEW instead of the developmental for the developmental. Sorry not sorry”

King replied by turning the comment around, pointing out the irony of the fan watching AEW, which he called a developmental, saying, “So you’ll be watching the developmental for the developmental for the developmental? No worries… I’ll be busy developing, while you are watching others develop!”

This led to a fan stating that while Lexis King is one of his favorites, he didn’t like that King called AEW a developmental company, saying, “Lexis is my boy but calling AEW developmental….. Nah.” Lexis King defended his comment as he stated that he developed while working in AEW, saying, “I developed while I was there.”

This comes after Lexis King previously admitted he was caught off guard by his AEW departure. Regardless, King is more than happy in his current role in WWE but it’s certain his comments about AEW has rubbed many people the wrong way.
