WWE’s NXT brand is rounding out this year with a bang. They will need a new #1 contender, because Oba Femi has to defend his championship against someone. Fans didn’t have to wait long.
The December 16 episode of NXT was quite a show, and they gave fans a few reasons to tune in. That included a #1 contender’s match that lit up the show.
During this week’s NXT, a WWE NXT Championship #1 Contender’s Fatal 4-Way match took place featuring DarkState’s Dion Lennox vs. Myles Borne vs. Joe Hendry vs. TNA X-Division Champion “The Youngest In Charge” Leon Slater.
This match was the main event of the show, and for good reason. They had all night to hype this contest, as each person involved had a backstage segment. This match stretched through a commercial break, and fans had to be bleeped because of the passion (and profanity) of their chants.
There were many near falls throughout this match as everyone in the match fought hard to pull down the win. Like most main event matches in NXT, this one went down to the wire as it was timed to end just as the show went off the air. In the end, Leon Slater nailed a Swanton 450 Splash to win the match and become the new #1 contender. This is very interesting, since he’s the current TNA X-Division Champion, and he’s not even an official NXT Superstar.
This match was one fall to a finish, and everyone in the match gave it their all. There were big spots all over the ring as everyone wanted to walk out of the match with a huge NXT Title shot on the horizon at New Year’s Evil on January 6.
