Leon Slater’s presence on the independent wrestling scene has noticeably slowed down, and a new report suggests there may be a strategic reason behind it.
The UK-born star has been signed with TNA Wrestling since 2023 but continued working for various promotions across Europe and the United States after joining the company. Slater had been a regular presence on the British independent circuit, appearing for several promotions throughout the United Kingdom.
However, that activity has recently changed. Slater has not competed outside of TNA or WWE events since November of last year, which has raised questions among fans and promoters about his current plans.
According to Fightful Select’s Corey Brennan, several sources across the European wrestling scene believe Slater may be intentionally stepping back from independent bookings as he approaches a key moment in his career.
The belief among promoters and talent in the region is that the 20-year-old standout is protecting himself during what is reportedly a contract year. Sources also indicated that if Slater does make a return to the independent circuit before his deal expires, it would likely be with promotions he already has strong ties to.
“The majority of those we spoke with also felt that if Slater does feature on the scene again, it will likely be with a promotion such as RevPro, or his home promotion of NORTH.”
The report also noted that Slater has not had recent contact with Germany’s wXw promotion after pulling out of one of their events last year in order to compete at WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event in December.
With Slater’s current TNA contract set to expire later this year, there is already speculation about what could come next. Several sources believe the rising star could attract interest from major promotions if he becomes available.
“Those we spoke with also believe that he will have major interest from WWE around that time.”
Slater has quickly built a reputation as one of the most exciting young talents in professional wrestling, and his future will likely become a major talking point as his contract situation develops over the coming months.
