AEW Dynamite fans just got a surprise update straight from Tony Khan less than two hours before showtime.

The AEW President took to social media to drop a late addition to the already stacked July 23, 2025 card — a singles match between Swerve Strickland and Hechicero.

“Hechicero vs Swerve Strickland… TONIGHT!” Khan wrote, confirming the match while noting it’s presented by Shark Week. This comes hot off the heels of Swerve’s fiery confrontation last week with Unified Champion Kazuchika Okada and Don Callis. Now, he’s stepping into the ring with Rey Hechicero, a member of the Callis Family.

This surprise match joins an already loaded lineup for Dynamite, including Hangman Adam Page taking on Wheeler Yuta as that feud with the Death Riders refuses to die down. Also on the card, AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm faces Billie Starkz in an eliminator match — and with Athena in Starkz’s corner, anything can happen.

The July 23 episode of AEW Dynamite airs at 8PM ET on TBS and streams on MAX, live from the Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom in Chicago, IL.

With a surprise match like Swerve vs. Hechicero added late, AEW proves once again it’s not afraid to keep fans on their toes with big moves right before showtime.
