AEW Grand Slam will take place in Australia on February 15, 2025 and during the press release for the event, quite a few top stars from Australia were notably absent from the release and fans found this to be quite odd. In fact, even Kyle Fletcher has admitted that other AEW stars were surprised by this snub.
While speaking to the Down the Ring podcast, Kyle Fletcher talked about how many people were surprised that some top Australian wrestlers weren’t mentioned in AEW’s press release for Grand Slam Australia. He admitted he didn’t know much about how those decisions were made since it’s not his responsibility but questioned why AEW didn’t include more names after snubbing them. He added that other AEW stars felt the same way was him as well.
“There were definitely a lot of names left off that list—yes, there were. Honestly, I don’t really know how all the press stuff works. That feels like something way above my pay grade. I will say it was surprising to me. If there were Australians left off, why wouldn’t you advertise that? I think a lot of us had the same thought.”
While it did seem odd not to promote Australian talent, he focused on the bigger picture Fletcher said he was excited and thankful for the event, pointing out how amazing it was that Grand Slam Australia was even happening. A few years ago, something like this seemed impossible, so he chose to focus on how special the event was instead of worrying about who was left out of the announcement.
“But regardless, it’s just crazy that this is even happening. I think getting caught up in little details like that is a bit silly. The fact that this is even happening is incredible. Years ago, I never would have expected something like this to be possible. I’m just grateful and blessed that it is.”
AEW Grand Slam: Australia will be taking place at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, which boasts a capacity of 13,500. Names such as Buddy Matthews, Harley Cameron and even Fletcher were left off the announcement. Regardless, Fletcher is clearly more focused on the show taking place than any snub and that’s all that matters to him at the moment.
