Stevie Richards had no problem declaring Logan Paul as the best in the game today—across both AEW and WWE. But AEW star Kyle Fletcher isn’t letting that take slide without a fight.
Richards recently stirred things up when he said Logan Paul is better than “everybody in AEW” and even claimed the YouTuber-turned-wrestler is “better than 98 percent of the WWE roster as well.” That set off a wave of discussion, and now Fletcher is stepping in with some strong words of his own.
Fletcher told TMZ’s Inside the Ring he doesn’t think the opinion holds much weight—even if Richards truly believes it.
“I don’t know if he believes that wholeheartedly. If he does, like I said, everyone’s entitled to their opinion. I think that opinion is bullsht personally.”*
The AEW TNT Champion made it clear that the talent in his locker room speaks for itself, with performances that raise the bar week after week.
“I think the roster that we have at AEW, the matches that you see on a weekly, bi-weekly, like monthly basis—I am astounded. Like, I can’t even keep up. Like, I watch one match that I go that’s the best match I’ve seen this year. And then the next week I’ll see another match that I think is the best match this year. It’s just… it’s an absolutely absurd claim to make.”
Despite his disagreement, Fletcher wasn’t dismissive of Logan Paul’s growth. He gave him credit for what he’s done in a short time.
“No hate on Logan Paul doing great stuff. Good for you. He’s been in the business five years if that. So the level that he’s performing at is insane. Do I think he’s better than Kenny Omega, Will Ospreay? Not a fcking chance.”*
He also touched on how some veterans in the business struggle to evolve with the times, and how that shapes their perspective.
“They think whatever they did is the best way it can be done. And I think a lot of people in wrestling feel like that. And it’s just not true. The business is constantly evolving, constantly changing.”
Fletcher even dropped a quick thought experiment: imagining his matches with Will Ospreay being shown to audiences from before 2000.
“The people watching it would just be losing their minds at the things that they are witnessing.”
As for his own journey, Fletcher said the pressure of being TNT Champion is real, but he credits Don Callis for helping him rise to the occasion. He also hinted that Mark Briscoe may soon have a role to play in the Don Callis Family.
Kyle Fletcher’s response throws cold water on the idea that Logan Paul has already surpassed AEW’s best. While Richards sees a future star who’s already reached the top, Fletcher sees an outsider being overhyped too fast.
