AEW TNT Champion Kyle Fletcher isn’t shy about where he thinks he stands in the wrestling world—and he’s got numbers to back it up.

As he prepares for his ninth title defense at AEW Full Gear, Fletcher is on the verge of setting a new record for most TNT Championship defenses in a single reign. Right now, he shares that milestone with none other than Cody Rhodes. But if he wins Saturday, that tie is broken—and in Fletcher’s mind, the legacy of the TNT title shifts permanently.

During an appearance on TMZ’s Inside The Ring, Fletcher opened up about the weight of carrying the title and what it really means to surpass a top WWE star like Cody. The question came up late in the interview when hosts pointed out that a ninth successful defense would push him beyond Cody’s benchmark. Fletcher didn’t hesitate to address it.

“Yeah. Uh, I—I mean, proclaiming that I’m the greatest TNT Champion of all time, uh, and surpassing Cody, uh, as well as Miro and Darby and reigns… it’s kind of a—it’s a weird sense of, like, imposter syndrome a little bit to me. Like—it’s like, Cody Rhodes is currently like the number one star in probably all of wrestling right now, like the top dog. And to be like, ‘Oh, I had a better championship reign than Cody Rhodes,’ like—look at me. But he’s right, he’s right.”

That might sound like a humble take, but Fletcher quickly doubled down on where he sees himself today.

“Yeah, I—I don’t know. Like, it’s a—it’s a bit of a weird feeling, but it’s also very reassuring to me. Like, oh—I mean, look at me. I’m—I’m doing better than—better than Cody Rhodes, better than Miro, better than Darby. It’s—you know, it’s kind of—it’s a weird thing, it’s a weird feeling, but also it—it reassures me that I’m kind of—I’m on the right path. I’m doing—doing the right thing, you know, moving in the right direction.”

Fletcher’s run with the TNT Championship has been one of the most consistent in AEW history. While fans might debate where he ranks among the belt’s most iconic holders, the numbers and his self-confidence make it clear—he believes this is his era.
