Kurt Angle might be lacing up his boots for something WWE-related this week—but nobody knows exactly what.

The WWE Hall of Famer has reportedly told those close to him that WWE reached out regarding some kind of involvement in Royal Rumble weekend. According to Fightful, it’s unclear whether this is for a spot in the Rumble match itself or another type of appearance.

What is certain? Angle will already be in Indianapolis, as he’s scheduled to be at WrestleCon, where he’ll be meeting fans on Saturday. While that’s the only event he’s officially listed for, the timing of WWE’s interest has fans wondering if there’s more to the story.

Angle last competed inside a WWE ring nearly six years ago at WrestleMania 35, where he had his retirement match against Baron Corbin. Since then, he’s made sporadic appearances for the company, including a special celebration on SmackDown’s 20th Anniversary and a birthday segment featuring Chad Gable and Otis.

WWE is known for pulling off surprises at the Royal Rumble, so it wouldn’t be shocking if Angle showed up in some capacity. Whether it’s a brief backstage cameo, a special guest role, or something more, WWE reaching out to one of its greatest Olympians has definitely grabbed attention.
