Kurt Angle has left a giant impression on pro wrestling and pop culture. Even his WWE entrance music makes fans involuntarily shout: “YOU SUCK!” He also realizes that fact.
In 2019, MMA fighter Colby Covington used Kurt Angle’s famous WWE entrance music. In the process, he brought a ton of “you suck!” chants from fans, because they were conditioned to do this thanks to Kurt’s massive WWE heat.
During an appearance on the Ariel Helwani Show, Kurt Angle was asked whether he minded Colby Covington stealing his heat. Angle admitted that Colby Covington’s camp asked for permission to use the music, still, the “you suck” chants were not 100% earned by Colby.
“Listen, he called me, his agent called me, out of nowhere and said, ‘hey listen we wanna use your music, will it be okay?’ I said, ‘Yeah, yeah, Colby he’s an ass kicker — go ahead and tell him to do it!’ But you’re right, when the fans chant ‘you suck,’ they’re really saying it to me.”
Kurt Angle let out a big smile after that, so this was all in jest. Still, it’s hard to argue that fans weren’t chanting that because of the song’s use in WWE.
Angle had a lot more to say during that interview, including how he views comparisons with himself and Chad Gable. He’s an open book at this stage of his career, where he can look back at everything he’s done over the past few decades. That includes earning heat associated with his classic WWE entrance music.
We will have to see if Kurt Angle’s entrance music comes up anywhere other than WWE from now on. It would also be exciting to hear it on RAW or SmackDown if he were to make a return to the company in any capacity.
