Kota Ibushi’s return to AEW may have hit a devastating setback after a frightening injury during the October 8 taping of AEW Collision. Reports now suggest the injury could be severe enough to sideline the “Golden Star” for a long time.

According to Sean Ross Sapp, the atmosphere backstage in AEW was filled with concern following the incident, as many within the company fear Ibushi’s injury is serious.

“The word backstage in AEW is that the Ibushi injury is serious and looks like it will have him out for quite some time.”

Adding to the concern, PWInsider reported that the prevailing belief backstage is that Ibushi suffered a broken femur — though AEW has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.

“The word making the rounds backstage at AEW is that Kota Ibushi suffered a broken femur. There has been no official announcement yet.”

The injury occurred during Ibushi’s match against Josh Alexander, which was abruptly stopped after Ibushi took a hard fall outside the ring. EMTs immediately rushed to his aid, and after a long delay, he was stretchered out and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Tony Khan personally addressed the live audience after the match was halted, offering reassurance and gratitude to the crowd for their support during the tense situation.

“Most challenging sport of all. When it comes to injuries, the hardest hitting sport of all is professional wrestling. Thank you for being so respectful. And let’s give it up for Kota Ibushi. Thank you.”

AEW has not yet provided an official medical update or timeline for Ibushi’s recovery. Fans and fellow wrestlers have flooded social media with support for the former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, hoping for a full recovery.

Kota Ibushi’s injury is another reminder of the physical toll that professional wrestling takes on its performers. As fans await official word, all eyes will be on AEW for an update on how long Ibushi will be out of action.
