Kofi Kingston didn’t hold back when a simple slip of the tongue set him off during a recent interview with Adrian Hernandez on Unlikely. The WWE Tag Team Champion immediately took issue with the interviewer referring to a WWE championship as a “belt,” making it clear that he takes the distinction very seriously.
“This is a title sir! In all the interviews that you’ve done. You still call this a belt. I thought you might have leveled up. I thought before, you know, he used to be an amateur. Let me see if he’s leveled up to become an intermediate,” Kofi fired back. “You, sir, wear a belt. You, sir, wear a belt to hold your pants up. This is a title. Anybody can wear a belt. Not anybody can have a title like this. Not anybody can be a champion.”
Kofi’s tone grew sharper as he mentioned the importance of that distinction. “Not to go off on a tangent, but you should know that by now. You’re better than this,” he added, clearly frustrated by what he viewed as a rookie mistake.
The New Day member made it clear that in WWE, a championship isn’t just an accessory — it’s a symbol of being the best. And for Kofi, confusing a title with a belt is a sign of disrespect to what he and other champions have worked so hard to earn.
