Killer Kross is setting the record straight about the viral “We want Kross” chants that broke out during WWE shows earlier this year. While fans rallied behind the former NXT Champion after his absence from TV, Kross isn’t placing his success on crowd reactions—and revealed what someone told him behind the scenes when the chants started picking up steam.
During an interview on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Kross revealed that someone advised him to take WWE’s offer before the chants faded out.
“I remember somebody calling me like ‘Hey man, that’s not going to go on forever, you should probably take the deal.’ First of all, our success is not predicated on the fans hijacking the show.”
He made it clear that he and his team weren’t relying on the chants to dictate their career decisions, nor did they expect it to be a permanent thing.
“Of course that’s going to go away eventually, nor were we banking on that changing… You see how much money people are paying for tickets, they’re going to have a good time. They’re not going to spend all that money to be angry in the building.”
While Kross appreciated the support, he also wanted to make sure people understood the bigger picture.
“We appreciated it so much, hearing it and seeing it, reading it, but, it’s like I said, all of those people who were chanting, they still come to see us, we know they’re still there, it doesn’t necessarily have to be on the show every single night.”
He also touched on the awkwardness of those chants happening while his friends were performing in the ring, and how it could feel disrespectful to the talent working hard that night.
“Also too, our friends are performing in the ring, they’re dieting all week, training all week, they’re giving 110%, we also don’t necessarily want that for them. Imagine going out there and killing yourself for the entertainment of the audience, and they’re chanting for somebody who’s not on the show. That’s a selfish thing to want when your friends are in the ring.”
Kross parted ways with WWE in August after contract negotiations broke down. Based on his comments, he left on his own terms—and not because the crowd demanded it.
