John Cena influenced a generation of pro wrestlers, and he has become a pop culture icon. He may be a very busy man, but he stopped by the WWE Performance Center recently to provide some veteran wisdom for the Superstars of tomorrow. He also understands that you can’t be on the mountaintop forever.

Kelani Jordan shared the full story behind her recent interaction with John Cena during an interview with Denise Salcedo. The conversation took place at the WWE Performance Center, where Cena spoke with NXT talent during a recent visit.

The current TNA Knockouts Champion explained what John Cena told the group and what he said to her directly. After all, The Greatest of All Time is known for his inspirational speeches. This was some hard-hitting advice, for sure, but they may have been words that people like Kelani Jordan needed to hear.

“First of all, he is just so intellectual and he’s incredible. He gave us so much insight. He honestly just kept reminding us that, hey, wrestling’s a journey. It’s not going to always be the mountaintop, but it’s also—there’s going to be times where you’re in the valleys.”

“So, he just kept on like reinforcing, ‘Hey, believe in yourself. Dare to be different.’ He told me — ’cause I asked him a few questions — he’s like, ‘Just keep doing what you’re doing. Stay the course. Because guess what? There’s going to be times where sometimes on social media, people love you. Sometimes in the crowd, they love you. But sometimes they boo you—and that’s okay.’”

“He’s like, ‘I was a babyface for so long and there were times where the crowd turned on me. But guess what? I’m still John Cena and they’re still paying tickets to come see me.’ So he just kind of reminded us, like, hey, there’s going to be valleys, there’s going to be hills—but just believe in yourself and keep at it, ’cause then you’re destined for greatness.”

John Cena has been through a lot in his career as a pro wrestler, and he brought fans into the building for years. He also knows a thing or two about highs and lows in the business, because he’s seen practically everything.

Kelani Jordan is set to defend the TNA Knockouts Championship in a triple-threat match at WWE NXT’s Gold Rush special on November 25. She will face Jordynne Grace and Léi Yǐng Lee with the Knockouts Title on the line. We will have to see if those words from John Cena resonate in that match.

On the other hand, John Cena is set to wrap up his career in the ring next month. John Cena’s final match is scheduled for December 13, 2025, at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington, D.C., at the Capital One Arena. He will face the winner of the ongoing 16-man “Last Time Is Now Tournament.” While the tournament is still underway, Gunther is currently the frontrunner to secure the spot.
