Karrion Kross and Scarlett’s WWE status is officially up in the air after their contracts expired at midnight on August 10, and the situation appears to be legitimate unless WWE is working an angle unlike anything they’ve done before with departures.

In recent months, both Kross and Scarlett told people who asked that their deals were set to expire in August — and that day has come. Shortly after midnight on August 10, they were moved to the alumni section of WWE’s website, along with Ashante Thee Adonis, who also revealed his contract had expired. WWE removed all three from the company’s internal roster.

Sources via Fightful Select say Kross and Scarlett are likely to address their situation publicly in the coming days. WWE talent told revealed that the duo had actually been scheduled to travel to WWE Raw last Monday, but the company changed their travel plans and they didn’t appear at the show. While clips of Kross’ match with Sami Zayn aired, there was no follow-up on the storyline stipulation where Kross was supposed to “admit he was wrong about Zayn.”

When it comes to whether they’ve been offered a new deal, things get murky. Months ago, WWE sources claimed that Kross was told a contract conversation would happen, but we haven’t confirmed whether that talk ever took place. Wrestling Observer reported this week that they believed an offer had been made, but Kross denied that was true. They also told people in the industry that they hadn’t been given the usual notice of expiration WWE sends out when a deal is coming to an end.

Several in WWE were surprised the situation came down to the wire like this, especially since the company has made a point over the past year and a half to address contracts early. One top talent told us they “hope it gets sorted out and the two remain with the company.”

Adding to the uncertainty, Kross’ entrance theme Dead Silent has been completely removed from both Spotify and Apple Music. Fans searching for it on either platform will now find nothing. The track’s sudden removal coincided with the contract expiration and alumni page update, fueling speculation that WWE is closing the book on this chapter.

If they’re done with WWE, there are still options on the table. Despite a rocky exit from TNA in the past, higher-ups in the company said there’s “no ill will” now, especially with the new regime in place. However, WWE’s current partnerships with TNA and AAA could complicate that. Kross worked regularly in AAA for more than two years before his first WWE run, and Scarlett also appeared there.

On the independent scene, Kross has worked Bloodsport shows and has ties to GCW, while Scarlett has her own indie following. Kross also had past stints with MLW and NJPW, but those companies have slowed down their U.S. operations.

WWE sources from both the talent and creative sides insist that “as of now, the departure is real.” But there’s always the chance this is a storyline in the making. If so, Scarlett, Kross, and WWE higher-ups would all be in on it — leaving promoters in the awkward spot of not knowing whether to reach out with bookings.

What’s clear is that Karrion Kross and Scarlett’s three-year WWE contracts were set to end August 10, and both have told people they haven’t signed new deals. WWE higher-ups privately confirmed to some in the company that their move to the alumni section was due to contract expiration, though there’s been no official public statement.
