Liv Morgan’s alleged stalker, a Canadian wrestling fan named Shawn Chan, was trying to get released from jail before his criminal trial began. However, it seems his request was denied.
According to PWInsider, a court hearing was held about Shawn Chan on September 15. Chan has been in jail without bond for several months. His lawyers asked the court to release him until his trial this fall, saying he could stay at a local Salvation Army that had agreed to give him a place to stay.
Prosecutors argued against his release. They said Chan is dangerous to the community, could easily go back to Morgan’s house, and might run away since he is a Canadian citizen with no job, no home, and no ties to the United States. They also said a Salvation Army bed did not meet the legal requirements for reconsidering his detention.
The court agreed with prosecutors and ruled that Chan must stay in jail until his trial, which is expected in November. The judge said that the Salvation Army is only a voluntary program and does not represent a real change in Chan’s situation.
Court documents also revealed that Chan went through a mental health evaluation and was found to have a delusional disorder, including a specific delusion about Liv Morgan. Because of this, the court said there is even more reason to keep him in custody until the trial.
On May 26, Chan flew from Scarborough, Ontario, to Orlando, Florida. When questioned by customs officers, he said he would be staying at the WWE Performance Center, which doesn’t have any living facilities.
Four days later, according to court documents, he traveled several hours to Liv Morgan’s house. He circled the property a few times, went into her backyard, and tried to get in through the front door but failed. He also picked up an air pellet that was on her porch, waited outside for hours, then left a note before leaving.
“It’s me Shawn, the guy you all play with online. You’ve been trying to reach me when I wasn’t in the game. So who’s the stalker? I never did anything bad for over 10 years, but you still hate me. I came here just for a friendly visit, nothing more. Yet I look like the stalker thanks to you. I won’t care about any of you anymore. I’ll start saying and doing whatever I want. I just wanted you to know I was here.”
WWE security saw footage from Morgan’s home, recognized Chan, and contacted the FBI. He was arrested on June 3. On June 25, he was officially charged and now faces up to five years in prison.
With Shawn Chan remaining in custody and trial set for November 2025, the next few months will be really critical for both the legal process and Liv Morgan’s peace of mind. So we’ll have to see what will happen in the end.
