There’s a great deal of uncertainty over Night of Champions taking place this due to the tensions between Iran and the U.S. While WWE seems to be moving forward with the show, it appears Jonathan Coachman has called out WWE for not canceling it.

Jonathan Coachman took to Twitter and talked about WWE moving forward with Night of Champions despite the current tensions involving Iran and Qatar. He said it’s absolutely crazy that they haven’t canceled the show yet. In his view, it’s just a wrestling event, while the situation in that region involves serious matters of life and death, not just in Iran but in the surrounding countries as well.

“It’s absolutely crazy they haven’t pulled the plug now. It’s a wrestling show. What’s going on over there is literally life and death and in the surrounding countries.”

Jonathan Coachman replied to a fan who asked why he went to Iraq with WWE if he thinks the current situation is too dangerous. He said yes he did go to Iraq, but this situation is very different. He explained that some WWE staff who went early are now stuck in Qatar because Saudi airspace has been shut down.

Coachman added that while the region has had conflicts before, it hasn’t been like this. Things are much more serious now, and with all the problems in nearby countries, and the U.S. being seen as a main enemy, the risk is a lot higher.

“Yes I went of course. But this is way different. Word is that support staff going early got stuck in Qatar because the airspace has been shut down in Saudi. So while it’s easy to say “it’s always been a war over there” it hasn’t been like this. Additionally with so much going on in the countries around it and the US is public enemy number 1”

A fan argued that Iran wouldn’t attack the Saudi royal family attending the event, saying Riyadh is likely the safest place in the region. They claimed it would be a death sentence for Iran if they did, and that going to Riyadh now is safer than when WWE went to Iraq or Afghanistan during active war zones for Tribute to the Troops.

Coachman responded by saying the airspace is already shut down. He asked if, as a wrestler, someone would really feel safe just believing that Iran wouldn’t attack. He shared his own story about flying into Afghanistan, where their plane had to land in a sharp dive to avoid getting shot down.

Coachman said it’s frustrating when people who don’t really understand the danger in the Middle East speak like they do. He reminded everyone that this is just a wrestling show not a mission to fight for your country, and people should take the risk more seriously.

“The airspace has been currently shut down. But if you were a talent would you be comfortable with “the Iranians would never attack those in attendance”. Are you serious. I went to Afghanistan and we had to land in a nose dive as opposed to the normal landing so we wouldn’t be shot down. All of you people that have no clue what these middle eastern countries are like when there is volatility make me scratch my head. We are talking about a wrestling show. Not turning down going there to fight for your country. Come on.”

We have reported that WWE won’t have a breach of contract with Saudi Arabia if they decide to cancel Night of Champions. It is to be noted that five WWE staffers are currently stuck at Doha Airport in Qatar as well, so the situation remains a serious one. Therefore, we’ll have to see what WWE will decide to do in the end.
