The March 24 episode from WWE’s NXT brand brought a lot to the table. This also included a #1 contender match for the North American Title, with the winner getting a shot at Myles Bourne’s championship at Stand & Deliver.
Shiloh Hill was the first man out in the gauntlet, and this was something he requested from Mr. Stone. It didn’t make much sense to Stone, but Hill explained, “if you’re not first, you’re last,” in true Ricky Bobby fashion. Then Jackson Drake came out next.
Competitors would enter every three minutes, and fans still didn’t know who would fill out the whole match. Dion Lennox and Charlie Dempsey came out next to join the fray.
Then Candice LeRae came out next, and she received a great reaction. Johnny Gargano has been in the dumps for a while, and she thinks that bringing him back to NXT would help fix him, and that is exactly what happened. This carried over an angle that Gargano has been doing on RAW since Tommaso Ciampa left WWE for AEW.
Gargano didn’t put up much of a fight, as he just lay on the apron like a plank. Then the match carried on as fans chanted “Johnny Wrestling.” Then Dion Lennox was eliminated first by Shiloh Hill after OTM jumped him at ringside. Then Hill went on to take out Jackson Drake and Charlie Dempsey later on in the match.
At that point, Birth Rite pulled Hill out of the ring, and they beat him down in a three-on-one attack. After that, they threw Hill back in, and Johnny Gargano was just getting to his feet. Then Gargano fell on Hill to win the match and claim a Stand & Deliver title shot. After he won the match, Gargano showed a bit more life as he realized what he had just won.
