Zack Ryder made his triumphant return during the November 14th edition of SmackDown and now John Cena’s role in making that return a reality has been revealed.

While speaking to Adrian Hernandez, Chelsea Green revealed that her husband Zack Ryder’s WWE return happened after years of persistence. She said he stayed in contact with WWE for five straight years, regularly updating the company and making sure Triple H knew he was available, especially for events like the Royal Rumble.

According to Green, everything finally aligned because Ryder has a real friendship with John Cena, making it the perfect scenario for him.

“He’s been in contact with WWE constantly. The whole five years he’s been in contact with WWE. He’s always making sure that Triple H knows what he’s doing or that he’s available for a Rumble and things like that. I just think it was a perfect storm — this made the most sense because he does have a personal friendship and relationship with John Cena. So why wouldn’t he want to be John Cena’s final opponent?”

Green explained that it wasn’t just Ryder pushing for it; she and John Cena also kept constantly pestering WWE about the idea. The constant pressure eventually worked, and WWE agreed. She said the situation proves that if you don’t keep asking, nothing happens, and it took all of them pushing together to make Ryder’s return a reality.

“And so it worked perfectly — between me pestering WWE, John Cena really pestering WWE, and Matt pestering WWE. They caved and it worked. That’s what I’m saying: you’ve got to keep asking. If you don’t ask — closed mouths don’t get fed. We all get the f****** grease.”

Ryder’s return match saw him lose to LA Knight in the “Last Time Is Now” tournament and that’s the last time fans will see Ryder for now, since it was a one-off appearance for him. So we’ll just have to wait and see if Ryder will make his return to WWE again eventually, as it’s clear fans still love him.

Should WWE bring Zack Ryder back for one more run? What role would you like to see him play if he returns permanently? Sound off in the comments.
