John Cena is stepping into Monday Night Raw as a full-blown villain for the first time, and while WWE is keeping the details locked down, one analyst believes Cena’s look is about to get a serious overhaul.
On his Notasm Wrestling podcast, Roberts suggested that Cena could follow in Hulk Hogan’s footsteps by tweaking his appearance to match his new persona, just as Hogan did when he ditched the red and yellow for black and white after joining the nWo.
“Maybe we go some kind of maybe a grey cargo short, right? No jorts at all. And not camo either because he went through that camo phase. What if he wears a grey cargo short, how about that, with some black sneakers? Maybe a grey cargo short with wrestling boots and the wrestling boots is the big change. But I don’t know. Just the idea of him wearing tights is still maybe too much of a departure but I don’t know.”
If Cena truly steps away from his signature jorts—a staple of his character for two decades—it would be a major shift in his presentation. Add in his recent social media teases, including a captionless image of Cesar Romero’s Joker on Instagram and a cryptic tweet reading:
“When someone is properly grounded in life, they shouldn’t have to look outside themselves for approval.”
…and it’s clear Cena is fully embracing his dark side.
With Cena set to challenge Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 41, everything about him—including his entrance, music, and attire—could be on the table for a massive refresh.
Do you think Cena should ditch the jorts for a new look? Should he go all-in on a heel makeover, or is the classic look too iconic to change? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comment section below.
