Years after Nexus burst onto the WWE scene in 2010, fans are still waiting for a proper deep dive into one of the most chaotic invasions in company history. Now, David Otunga says a documentary covering the faction was completed—only to vanish, and he’s pointing fingers at none other than John Cena.

Speaking on the Muscle Memory podcast, Otunga confirmed the long-rumored Nexus documentary wasn’t just an idea—it was fully produced.

“Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. We filmed it and everything,” Otunga revealed. “It was completed and then it ended up, like they just finished it.”

But just as the project wrapped, WWE underwent a wave of COVID-related layoffs that gutted the department responsible for its production.

“I talked to the guy, one of the producers… and literally like the next day, two days later, he got fired. They all got fired. They got let go in COVID.”

Otunga said the producer was impressed with his role in the film and had planned to give him a spotlight moment in the final cut.

“He was telling me how fired my part was. He told me my interview was so good, they were saving me for last… I was the main event of the documentary, if you will.”

But fans never got to see it. When asked if backstage tension with John Cena could have influenced the documentary’s shelving, Otunga didn’t hold back.

“Always, are you kidding me? Yeah. Of course.”

And then he made the claim head-on.

“Hey, why do you think they never brought the Nexus back? Why do you think they never released the Nexus documentary? John Cena has a lot of pull there.”

Otunga’s comments add fuel to long-running speculation that Cena wasn’t a fan of the Nexus storyline, especially after the original SummerSlam 2010 match that many say derailed the group’s momentum.
