John Cena’s Heel Turn Has Nothing to Do With Make-A-Wish

John Cena’s shocking heel turn at Elimination Chamber has led to plenty of speculation, but one particular rumor about Make-A-Wish being involved in the storyline has now been debunked.

During the March 18 installment of the Fightful Select Q&A, Sean Ross Sapp addressed an online rumor claiming that Make-A-Wish played a role in Cena’s character shift and that WWE had even trademarked the phrase “Break A Wish.”

Sapp dismissed the claim outright, saying: “That was a fake story credited to us. It’s not a real thing.” This confirms that Cena’s heel turn has nothing to do with his charity work and is strictly a WWE creative decision.

Meanwhile, WWE is keeping Cena’s Raw return under tight wraps. When asked about Cena’s presentation for the show, Sapp stated: “They are playing it close to the vest, as they should. It’s a major attraction point to tune in. I’ve been asking about his theme, I’ve been asking about everything.”

Adding to the speculation, Billi Bhatti of The Wrestling Informer Podcast reported that one idea pitched for Cena’s return involves R-Truth. The plan would see Truth, a longtime Cena fan, confront him over his betrayal of Cody Rhodes, only for Cena to brutally attack Truth and further establish his villainous persona.

Cena has already hinted at his new dark side on social media, posting a captionless image of Cesar Romero’s Joker on Instagram and tweeting: “When someone is properly grounded in life, they shouldn’t have to look outside themselves for approval.”
