Brock Lesnar absolutely squashing John Cena at WWE WrestlePalooza really shocked fans since many expected a proper back-and-forth bout with Cena going over. Unsurprisingly, John Cena’s father has now slammed WWE for the squash match.
While speaking on Sportskeeda WrestleBinge, John Cena’s father criticized WWE and said the bout felt less like a match and more like a one-sided squash. From the moment Paul Heyman introduced Lesnar as “the last real ass-kicker,” he believed the outcome was clear and that Cena was finished.
Cena Sr. argued the match could have been booked in a far better way. In his view, pro wrestling should aim to entertain and satisfy fans, not leave children in tears as he witnessed that night. He questioned why WWE would have someone on his farewell tour lose like that in only eight minutes with no real drama or action.
“I don’t understand it. Not because he’s my son, but I came up with a couple of scenarios. That was a squash match—when Heyman came out and said ‘the last real ass-kicker,’ that’s when I knew Cena was done. It’s over. It’s going to be the same type of thing as when he gave Cena fifteen F5s. I sat down and thought it shouldn’t go down that way. Brock doesn’t need that rub at all. There were many ways it could have been better than the way I saw it go down. In this business, you want to make fans happy sometimes.
When I saw those kids crying, that’s not how you want to run business. Why would you take the man on a tour who’s leaving and beat him? It makes no sense to me at all. I don’t even call that a match—it was a squash. That’s all it was. Eight minutes! That could have been so much better, with so much more thrill and spill.”
In his view, the goal seemed to be making Lesnar look unbeatable by destroying one of WWE’s biggest stars and setting up his next big fight. But he believes Lesnar didn’t need such an easy win and that the way it was done was a poor choice.
“Apparently whoever wrote it intended to show Brock as the Beast—now the Beast has decimated the GOAT and the story is to see who the Beast’s next victim will be. That was the intent, and it was a poor way to put it over.”
As reported earlier, John Cena and Brock Lesnar’s feud effectively ended at WWE WrestlePalooza and they’re never going to face each other again. While Cena will be facing AJ Styles at WWE Crown Jewel, we’ll have to see what’s next in store for Lesnar as anything is possible.
