John Cena’s career is winding down, and no one is feeling it more than his father. In a recent interview with Undisputed, John Cena Sr. admitted that watching his son’s final months as an in-ring competitor has been emotional.
“I get a tear in my eye thinking it’s coming to an end,” he said. “I don’t think people really believe it, but I know my son. If he says this is the end, then this is it. We’re only a few months away from the last time we see John in jorts in a wrestling ring. So enjoy what you’re seeing: you’ll never see him in a wrestling ring again.”
Cena’s retirement tour kicked off in January and will wrap up by December. But his road to WrestleMania 41 took a shocking turn when he turned heel on Cody Rhodes and aligned himself with The Rock. Even Cena Sr. was caught off guard, but he fully supports the move.
“It was very, very well done,” he said. “I’m a big fan of Cody Rhodes, and I think everyone knows how I feel about John. I can’t wait for their match at WrestleMania.”
Outside the ring, Cena Sr. couldn’t be prouder of everything his son has accomplished—not just as a 16-time World Champion, but also for his work outside of WWE.
“John’s done so much to give back,” he said. “There is Make-A-Wish, and there is a lot more no one knows about. I’m very proud of what he’s accomplished and how he’s accomplished it.”
With WrestleMania 41 just a month away, all eyes are on Cena vs. Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship. Both men will be on Raw next Monday in Glasgow, Scotland, setting the stage for what could be Cena’s final WrestleMania match.
