John Cena is a 16-time WWE World Champion and was the face of the company throughout the PG era. Many fans wondered if he will ever get to be a 17-time WWE Champion and he has now revealed the condition for that to happen.

The Leader Of Cenation became a 16-time World Champion after defeating AJ Styles at the 2017 Royal Rumble, equalling his record with Ric Flair. Fans have wondered whether Cena will surpass Flair or not.

At the Money in the Bank Premium Live Event, John Cena confirmed that he will be ending his in-ring career next year and that is why he has a whole retirement tour planned for 2025.

While speaking during the post-Money in the Bank press conference, John Cena was asked about potentially becoming a 17-time World Champion before retiring. Cena stated that opportunities must be earned.

Reflecting on his track record, he acknowledged the need to put in work. He named events like the Rumble and Elimination Chamber as significant chances for him to eventually become a 17-time World Champion. Cena reminded fans that WrestleMania won’t be his final appearance and noted Money in the Bank as another promising opportunity.

He recognized the competitive challenge ahead, acknowledging he needs to start from the bottom realistically. Despite this, he remained optimistic about the scattered opportunities that could lead to making history with a bit of luck.

“I would love that opportunity. Those opportunities are earned. Given my past track record, I’ve got some work to do. So what I said tonight about fantastic opportunities, man, the Rumble, that’s a great ticket. Elimination Chamber now has some stakes to it. That is another great opportunity. Like I said, WrestleMania is not my last one. Money in the Bank is another great opportunity.

So I know from a straight competitive standpoint I have to work my way up from the bottom. I’m a realist. But there are some opportunities scattered that, if I do harness a little more luck, who knows, maybe we really make some history. Either way, I’m excited. Guys, that is my time.”

John Cena also explained why he will retire from in-ring competition in 2025, so we will have to wait and see whether John Cena will end up making history by becoming a 17-time World Champion when all is said and done.
