John Cena is officially back in action as Peacemaker, and fans just got their first taste of what’s coming in season two—and it’s looking explosive, literally.
DC Studios co-CEO and series creator James Gunn dropped the long-awaited update himself, revealing that Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere August 21, 2025, on Max. Along with the release date, Gunn also shared fresh footage of Cena reprising his role as Chris Smith.
“Counting the days until Peace on Earth. I just finished the DI & Mix on the Season Premiere yesterday, and wow, it’s one of my favorite things ever,” Gunn tweeted.
The clip opens with Cena’s Peacemaker walking away from a massive explosion with his usual conflicted glare. Right on cue, he gives a thumbs-up. Because of course he does.
The montage continues with Smith sprinting through a wooded area before someone—identity unknown—crashes through a building window. Then we hear Leota Adebayo, played by Danielle Brooks, tell him flat-out: “You’re a superhero now.”
Elsewhere, Jennifer Holland’s Emilia Harcourt looks furious while standing inside a bar, adding tension to the chaotic sneak peek. Finally, the teaser closes with Cena rocking the full Peacemaker outfit, looking ready to clean up—or destroy—whatever stands in his way.
The upcoming season will also bring back Steve Agee as John Economos and Freddie Stroma as the wild Vigilante. Even Robert Patrick is returning as the now-dead White Dragon, Chris Smith’s father, so expect those flashbacks to sting.
Season 2 is said to focus even more on Chris Smith as a person—not just the trigger-happy mask he wears. And with the show moving deeper into the revamped DC Universe, fans are keeping a close eye on how Peacemaker fits into James Gunn’s larger plan.
