John Cena played a major role in launching HGTV’s newest reality series, Junk or Jackpot? — and he personally chose Queer Eye star Bobby Berk to host it.
Speaking in an interview with The LA Times, interior designer and Queer Eye alum Bobby Berk revealed that Cena personally selected him to host HGTV’s newest feel-good reality series, Junk or Jackpot?.
“John was a big ‘Queer Eye’ fan,” Berk said. “So I said yes. It shot here in L.A., which was really important to me.”
The premise of the show is more than just cleaning out clutter — it’s about helping people at emotional crossroads in their lives who are buried under the weight of their own collections. Berk explained that every “collector” featured on the show had something deeper going on beneath the piles of stuff.
“With Patrick and Roger, Roger had moved out and their relationship was on the rocks because there was literally no space for Roger,” Berk shared, pointing to the premiere episode. “With Carly and Johnny, they had a kid they weren’t expecting in their early 40s… their priority needed to be their son.”
Berk’s mission? Help them rediscover joy in what they love, without letting it destroy their personal lives.
“We have this thing that we love and has brought us joy, but now this thing is actually starting to have negative things happening in our life,” he said. “I wanted to come in and really bring back the joyous part of their collection.”
John Cena also backed the project publicly on Twitter, giving fans a peek into how it all started, thanks to a debate with Chelsea Green and Matt Cardona.
“What started as a debate with @ImChelseaGreen and @themattcardona has now, with the help of the incredible @bobbyberk, become a reality. Junk or Jackpot premieres tonight at 9:30pm on HGTV!”
With John Cena’s backing, Berk’s design instincts, and stories that go way beyond clutter, Junk or Jackpot might just be your next comfort-watch obsession.
