John Cena isn’t sugarcoating anything when it comes to the idea of having kids. While many stars give vague or diplomatic answers to personal questions like this, Cena delivered a brutally honest explanation that caught everyone off guard—especially considering who asked.

During a fan Q&A at FAN EXPO Boston, a young girl stepped up to the mic with a simple question: Do you want to have kids someday? Cena didn’t laugh it off or dodge the topic. Instead, he paused, took a breath, and gave one of the most vulnerable answers of the day.

“Currently, no. Why? Well… from the information that I’ve gathered—you kind of gotta look after ‘em.”

Cena went on to describe how his nonstop schedule would make responsible parenting nearly impossible right now.

“I’ve been working straight for 43 days now, and I got another 20 to go. So, if I were to bring a life into this world that needs environmental nurture and unconditional love… I also know that takes time. And I’ve been blessed with some great opportunities, and life has awarded me the chance to do some amazing things.”

Rather than pretending he could balance it all, Cena explained why he’s choosing not to take that leap at this point in his life.

“Right now, I want to seize those opportunities. So I don’t want to make an irresponsible choice and bring a life into the world that I will neglect. I don’t think that’s fair.”

He closed the moment by thanking the fan for her bravery in asking such a personal question.

“That’s a great question. Thank you for being vulnerable enough to allow me to answer it. I appreciate you.”

Whether or not fatherhood is in Cena’s future, one thing’s clear—he’s not making decisions lightly, and he’s not afraid to say the hard parts out loud.
