John Cena’s final match is locked in for December 13 in Washington, D.C. against GUNTHER—but just because he’s stepping away from in-ring action doesn’t mean he’s leaving WWE.

Speaking with Tom Rinaldi, Cena confirmed he’s officially signed a five-year deal with WWE as an ambassador, cementing his long-term role with the company even after he retires from wrestling.

“So the last part is the true part. I’m already signed on for another five years. ‘Please, as long as you can do it. I would like to be in this family as an employee, as a contributing part for as long as I can.’”

But Cena made one thing crystal clear: once he wrestles on December 13, he’s done performing inside the squared circle for good.

“The ring? Physical activity—100%. And I rarely speak in absolutes, but you never know. But I do know in this case, this is why I speak in absolutes, because I don’t want to let the people I promised down.”

Cena said he’s embracing a new chapter—one focused on mentorship, promotion, and helping future stars break through. His goal? Helping the next big thing find their voice.

“It’s not my time to perform anymore. I have a bunch of strengths and gifts that I can pass on. I’m looking forward to the second mountain of being an ambassador. Maybe ambassadorship comes with letting more people know to watch this, which was my goal in the first place. And maybe mentorship to talent I wouldn’t spend time with, where I can sit and be like, ‘Who are you really? How can I get the rapping moment on the bus? I want that guy or girl on TV.’ I’m looking forward to that stuff.”

So while the ring lights are dimming on John Cena’s in-ring career, he’s still committed to being a force in WWE—just from the sidelines instead of center stage.
