John Cena is back on a movie set—and this time, he’s filming in New Jersey with Eric André for their new Netflix comedy Little Brother.
According to NJ.com, production officially kicked off this week in Montclair, where Cena was spotted on location shooting scenes for the film. He plays a polished real estate agent whose carefully controlled life is derailed by the unexpected arrival of his chaotic younger brother, played by André.
The timing of the shoot makes sense. Cena has a light WWE schedule in July, with limited dates confirmed as part of his farewell run. With filming underway and his full WWE retirement planned for 2025, this project is a strategic fit in the lead-up to his in-ring exit.
Little Brother is directed by Matt Spicer (Ingrid Goes West) and written by Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel (Yes Man, The D Train). Cena’s role in the Netflix original follows his recent work in Amazon’s Heads of State with Idris Elba and Priyanka Chopra, which released July 2.
Interestingly, the Montclair set is busier than usual—Adam Sandler’s Untitled Roommates Project is also filming in town this week. That movie stars Sadie Sandler and recently held casting calls for extras playing students.
Eric André, Cena’s on-screen brother, is no stranger to Netflix either. He starred in Bad Trip, voiced Azizi in Disney’s The Lion King remake, and will appear in Happy Gilmore 2, which drops July 25. André also won an Emmy in 2023 for The Eric André Show, parts of which were filmed in New Jersey.
With Little Brother now in production, Cena continues building his post-WWE résumé while carefully timing his final matches around big Hollywood moves. This family comedy may just be his last before he rides into WWE retirement.
