John Cena’s farewell tour might not be going the way fans — or Cena himself — hoped. With only a couple of months left before he officially retires, new claims suggest the 16-time world champion is frustrated with how WWE has handled his final storyline.

During an episode of Writing with Russo, former WWE writer Vince Russo shared that Cena is allegedly not pleased with how his retirement angle has unfolded, pointing the finger squarely at WWE’s creative direction.

“Well, bro, I’ve got to tell you. Okay, I’m hearing that John Cena is very unhappy — he doesn’t like the way this whole retirement angle has played out. It’s not what he wanted, and he’s disappointed.”

Russo didn’t stop there. He also dropped a major claim that Cena’s camp may have been in touch with AEW, hinting that the wrestling legend could be exploring options outside of WWE.

“I even heard there’s been some contact between John Cena’s camp and AEW’s camp — whoa. With that being said, GUNTHER’s going over John Cena.”

Cena is currently scheduled to face GUNTHER in his final match at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13th in Washington D.C. The belief is that GUNTHER will walk out with the win, closing the book on Cena’s legendary in-ring career.

Even if things haven’t gone his way, Cena is known for his professionalism and will likely give his all in his swan song. But with rumors of AEW talks swirling, this might not be the last chapter fans expected.
