David Otunga is telling all—and one of the most explosive revelations involves John Cena and the man who would later become Bray Wyatt. According to Otunga, a match gone wrong between Cena and then-rookie Husky Harris resulted in Cena using his backstage influence to get Harris sent back to WWE developmental.

The incident happened during a tag team match where Otunga was ringside. Harris was in the ring with Cena when he allegedly poked the WWE megastar in the eye—something Otunga says wasn’t even confirmed.

“During this match, Husky Harris allegedly poked John Cena in the eye. Allegedly. Cena went crazy. Crazy in this match.”

When the match ended, things only escalated backstage. Otunga says Cena lost it behind the curtain and took the situation straight to management.

“We get to the back, Cena goes crazy. He goes off, says, ‘We’re not ready.’ He got poked in the eye. Like—it was bad… Eventually [Husky Harris] came in the back and he was mad, and he was like, ‘Man… I just found out. We’re getting sent back to FCW.’”

FCW, or Florida Championship Wrestling, was WWE’s developmental territory at the time. According to Otunga, Husky Harris and Michael McGillicutty (Curtis Axel) were both pulled from the road after the incident—changing the trajectory of Harris’s career. But that move may have led to something even greater.

“While he was down there, he created Bray Wyatt and he was there for like two years. But I remember when he came back and debuted Bray Wyatt, just thinking—man, John Cena led to this.”

Otunga also noted that Cena seemed to take pride in what happened, as if he had a hand in creating the Bray Wyatt character—despite the demotion coming from a negative reaction.

“If I were to speculate, it kinda seems like just how Cena moves, is that in a way he feels like he helped create Bray Wyatt—because had he not sent Husky Harris back, Windham wouldn’t have had to come up with the Bray Wyatt character.”

And this wasn’t a one-off situation. Otunga brought up Baron Corbin’s appearance on Chris Van Vliet’s podcast, where Corbin admitted he was terrified after accidentally poking Cena in the eye during a match—because he had heard the Husky Harris story. Otunga confirmed it wasn’t just a locker room myth.

“Well, I can confirm that did indeed happen. And I participated in the match. I was there. I was part of that.”

Otunga’s story reveals just how powerful Cena’s backstage pull may have been during his WWE peak—and how one moment of frustration could alter a wrestler’s entire path.

The idea that Bray Wyatt was born from an in-ring accident and backstage heat paints an entirely new picture of how character evolution in wrestling can sometimes be triggered by real-life tension.

Do you think John Cena overreacted by having Husky Harris sent back to developmental? Or was it a wake-up call that ultimately helped create one of wrestling’s most unique characters? Sound off in the comments—we want to hear your thoughts.
