John Cena began his retirement tour earlier this year with only a limited number of dates. Now that we are halfway through the tour, Cena has admitted that WWE has already made a ton of pivots during the tour already.

While speaking to Collider, John Cena was asked how far in advance WWE plans its storylines. Cena said he didn’t want to give away any spoilers for his final year, but he added that it was a great question. Cena talked about his experience in many parts of entertainment like TV, movies, and hosting, but said WWE is the most flexible.

Cena noted that WWE can change a storyline live as things happen. The former Leader of Cenation admitted that during his farewell tour, where 18 of 36 dates are done with, WWE has made a ton of pivots already.

“I don’t want to spoil any of the stuff for the final year, but I think your question is great. I’ve been in a lot of avenues of entertainment. I’ve read the morning news, I’ve hosted award shows, I’ve had slime poured all over me. I’ve done episodic television. I’ve been able to be on screen. I’ve been able to be on your phone, and I’ve been in arena life. There is no more adaptable form of storytelling than WWE. WWE can change a story as it happens live. You’re seeing, so far over the farewell tour dates, the 18 of 36 so far, we’ve made a ton of pivots, a ton of pivots right there in the moment.”

Cena said that as he enters the last six months of his career, there will be even more changes depending on how fans react. He believes the fans will help decide how things go from here.

The WWE Undisputed Champion encouraged anyone who has ever wanted their voice heard to speak up now. Cena is excited for the rest of the journey and thinks it’s a great time to be a fan. He also praised WWE for being able to plan ahead but still change things quickly when needed, calling that one of their greatest strengths.

“As we get close to the end of this thing, what dictates those pivots is the audience, and I think the audience will begin to feel differently, because now we are truly coming to the end. So, if you ever had a voice to use, if you ever wanted to say something, I hate to steal my own cliché, but the time is now. I look forward to the road ahead because the audience is going to dictate the direction we go. I think it’s a wonderful time to be a fan. I think a lot of different talent are being able to capitalize on all we’re doing, and I applaud the WWE for always being able to think extended but pivot on a dime in a moment, as it happens. I think that’s their strongest suit.”

This comes after we have already reported that WWE still hasn’t finalized the remaining dates for John Cena’s retirement tour, so the company constantly pivoting isn’t really a big surprise.

Regardless, we’ll have to wait and see how WWE will continue to book his retirement tour in the coming months. Right now, he’s set to defend his Undisputed WWE Title against CM Punk at Night of Champions, so fans are definitely excited to see how that will turn out.
