Joe Hendry’s First Challenger For NXT Title Steps Up During 2/10 Episode

Joe Hendry won the NXT Title in a brutal ladder match last week. It didn’t take long for someone new to step up.

The February 10 episode of NXT opened up with Joe Hendry cutting a promo for fans. However, the good feelings didn’t last long.

Jackson Drake and the Vanity Project came out next, and they got in Joe Hendry’s face. After a back-and-forth promo battle, the stable attacked the newly-crowned NXT Champion.

After laying Joe Hendry out, Jackson Drake picked up the NXT Title and he held it above his head. The message was very clear that Drake wanted the title.

Keanu Carver approached Robert Stone backstage after that segment. He wasn’t happy about Jackson Drake stepping up and getting a title shot against Joe Hendry so quickly. That is when the Interim General Manager revealed that Joe Hendry wants the match, so it’s happening. It was later announced that the match was happening later on in the night.

[Update] Joe Hendry went on to beat Jackson Drake later on in the show. This was a successful defense for the new NXT Champion, and it got his first retention out of the way.

We will have to see how much longer Joe Hendry’s NXT Title reign will last. Getting the championship closed out a huge story for him. Only time will tell if Jackson Drake’s legacy is just starting.
