TNA Wrestling kicked off 2025 in style with their Genesis pay-per-view. The Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, Texas was packed full of pro wrestling fans, and they got quite a show.
In the main event of the night, Nic Nemeth faced Joe Hendry in a match for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. The former Dolph Ziggler walked into the building as champion, but Joe Hendry wanted to make his 2025 as big as possible.
This contest got a big match feel thanks to the introductions by newly-returned ring announcer Mckenzie Mitchell. Fans were also very much behind Joe Hendry in Texas, as they wanted to watch him make history at Genesis. They also chanted “We Believe!” in loud fashion to let Hendry know that they were behind him.
This was a back-and-forth match in the beginning as they felt each other out. The Wanted Man Nic Nemeth was able to stay ahead of Hendry, but Joe also got a nice suspended suplex off to get the upperhand for a bit. Ryan Nemeth was banned from ringside by Santino Marella, but then he showed up with a ticket in hand at ringside, after they announced that the pay-per-view was a legit sold out show.
Nic Nemeth gained control of the match once again, and he used his veteran move set on Joe Hendry as the fans cheered the challenger on. There were a couple close near falls as Hendry fought on, even kicking out of a Danger Zone from Nemeth.
Frankie Kazarian tried to interrupt the match, but JBL showed up and ran him off. Then Joe Hendry stopped Nic Nemeth in his tracks and nailed a fallaway slam and a Standing Ovation to win the match and claim the TNA World Title.
Nic Nemeth had an impressive tenure in WWE as Dolph Ziggler. Joe Hendry has also recently competed in WWE, as he even challenged Ethan Page for the NXT Title at No Mercy 2024. We will have to see what the future holds for Joe Hendry as TNA World Champion, but 2025 is shaping up to be a banner year for those who believe.
