TNA star Joe Hendry has been making serious waves in WWE this year—and now he’s openly eyeing a dream match with John Cena. But according to Hendry himself, there’s only one thing that can get in the way of making that happen: himself.
During his appearance on the Battleground Podcast, Hendry reflected on what’s already been a wild year for him, from his Royal Rumble surprise to his massive singles match at WrestleMania 41.
“Showing up in the (Royal) Rumble was crazy, but if I’d have told you in March ‘Hey, I’m going to wrestle Randy Orton at WrestleMania in featured singles match,’ that would have sounded pretty crazy right?”
Hendry was hand-picked to face Randy Orton at WrestleMania after Kevin Owens suffered an injury. But now, Hendry has his sights set on the ultimate bucket list opponent: John Cena.
“Does me wrestling John Cena sound that crazy? It’s in the realm of possibility.”
The Scottish star didn’t shy away from admitting the pressure is on—and if he doesn’t capitalize on this momentum, the blame falls entirely on him.
“If it happens, it’s because I did everything I was supposed to do. If it doesn’t happen, it’s because I dropped the ball, and like I said, that’s already happened once this year, can’t let it happen again.”
Hendry’s referring to his loss to Trick Williams at WWE Battleground in May—a match that not only cost him bragging rights but also the TNA World Championship.
With Cena expected to retire this year, Hendry knows time is running out—but if he can keep racking up big moments in WWE, the door to that dream match stays wide open.
