Joe Hendry isn’t letting old narratives stick — and his latest comments make it clear he’s outgrown the “flash in the pan” label.

Following his rise in WWE and continued momentum as NXT Champion, Hendry spoke to Complex Graps on April 1, 2026 and directly addressed critics who once believed his success would be short-lived. At one point, Hendry said, many people dismissed him as someone who would quickly fade after a brief moment in the limelight. Now, he’s turning that narrative on its head and calling those people out.

“What’s cool is, you know, at one point a lot of people were telling me, ‘Oh, it’s 15 minutes of fame.’ I’ll tell you this — there’s been some serious time dilation here, because those 15 minutes, we’re going on to several years now.”

Instead of viewing that criticism negatively, Hendry used it as a benchmark — pointing to his longevity as proof that he’s built something more sustainable than a viral moment. He also broke down the mindset that’s helped him stay relevant, stating that success isn’t about what’s already been achieved, but about constantly pushing forward.

“I’m proud of that because a lot of people have a moment, but I always try to explain to people that if you have a moment, you always have to think about what’s next.”

The NXT Champion then made it even clearer what separates him from those who fade out after their initial hype and excitement: “It’s not what you’ve done — it’s about what you’re doing.”

This puts the focus squarely on Hendry’s evolution — not just as a performer, but as someone determined to prove he belongs at the top long-term. With his current run continuing to build, he’s making it clear that whatever people expected early on no longer applies.
