Jim Smallman, a driving force behind NXT’s creative vision, has announced his departure from WWE to return to the UK and focus on his family.

Taking to social media, the former Senior Writer and Producer shared the heartfelt reasons behind his decision and reflected on his incredible journey with the company.

Smallman, who co-founded PROGRESS Wrestling before joining WWE, explained that leaving NXT was a challenging choice. “Yesterday was my last day as part of the NXT creative team, as I resigned from my position as Senior Writer/Producer in order to move back to the UK and be a better dad to my two children,” he revealed. While the move marks the end of his NXT tenure, it underscores his commitment to his role as a father.

“Alas, it is impossible to be a good dad from 4,000 miles away, and some personal health issues last year put that into sharp focus. It’s time to head home and make up for lost time,” Smallman added, acknowledging the sacrifices his career demanded.

Over the course of his time in WWE, Smallman made a significant impact, writing 216 episodes of NXT UK, 150 episodes of Level Up, and contributing to 190 episodes of NXT. He expressed gratitude to Shawn Michaels, Triple H, and the many talents he collaborated with, calling it an “emotional day” as he said his goodbyes. “I am forever grateful to Shawn and Hunter for giving me my chance, Johnny and the writing team for being amazing, Mr. Regal for putting me forward for everything, Joe for showing me the ropes… and to every gifted talent that I’ve worked with.”

Despite leaving his position, Smallman hinted that this isn’t a final goodbye to WWE. “This might be goodbye to the NXT creative team, but not to WWE. I hope to see all of my friends again down the line,” he concluded, leaving the door open for future opportunities.
