Mick Foley officially parted ways with WWE — and Jim Ross thinks the company should take it seriously.
Speaking on Grilling JR, the WWE Hall of Famer opened up about Foley’s decision to walk away from WWE — and made it clear that this wasn’t just some dramatic exit. It was a man following through on his principles.
“I think the world of Mick Foley. If I had my own territory, he’d be another guy I’d bring in — he’d be joining Gunther on the roster, so to speak. He’s just a wonderful human being. He has high principles. He’s very sensitive, very intelligent — and if he says he’s done, he’s done.”
And while WWE may not be scrambling behind the scenes, Ross made it clear: Foley’s departure is a loss they shouldn’t overlook, since he’s a valuable asset.
“So I don’t think anyone in WWE will lose any significant sleep over it — but they should. He’s a valuable asset. In any event, you never really know how things are going to end up at the end of the day. What I do know is that when Mick says something, he means it.”
Ross also pointed out that Foley’s frustration with WWE’s ties with Donald Trump isn’t a solo stance — plenty of others feel the same.
“He’s very disillusioned with WWE’s support of Trump — but he’s not alone in that. A lot of people feel that way, because Trump isn’t the most popular guy.”
So what pushed Foley over the edge? A now-viral post from Donald Trump, who used Truth Social to comment on the murder of Rob and Michele Reiner and blamed their deaths on “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
“A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS… May Rob and Michele rest in peace!”
The post led to a ton of outrage across the entertainment world. Musician Jack White unleashed a scathing response on social media, calling Trump a “disgusting, vile, egomaniac, loser, child.”
“Trump you disgusting, vile, egomaniac, loser, child. Neither he nor any one of his followers can defend this gross, horrible insult to a beautiful artist who gave the world so much… Shame on you trump and anyone who defends this.”
Foley reposted White’s statement on Instagram and directly called out his fellow WWE stars for standing by Trump.
“What @officialjackwhite said here is spot on. How any of my @wwe colleagues can stand by — let alone stand next to — this man is beyond me.”
Then, on December 16, Foley confirmed he had informed WWE that he would no longer make appearances for the company due to its connection to Trump.
“While I have been concerned about WWE’s close relationship with Donald Trump for several months… reading the President’s incredibly cruel comments in the wake of Rob Reiner’s death is the final straw for me.
I no longer wish to represent a company that coddles a man so seemingly void of compassion as he marches our country towards autocracy. Last night, I informed @WWE talent relations that I would not be making any appearances for the company as long as this man remains in office.”
Foley also revealed he won’t renew his WWE Legends contract when it expires in June 2026, making it clear he has no regrets about his decision.
“I love WWE, will always treasure my time with them, and I am deeply appreciative for all the opportunities they afforded me.”
Mick Foley has always been known for standing up for what he believes in. Whether fans agree with his stance or not, this departure sends a message — and if WWE isn’t taking it seriously, JR thinks that’s a big mistake.
Do you agree with Jim Ross? Should WWE be more concerned about losing someone like Mick Foley, or is this just a personal move that won’t change anything? Drop your thoughts in the comments — we want to hear what you think.
